How Much Amount in Bank is Subject to Zakat Deduction?

by Brands Kahani 27 Feb 2025 0 Comments

The Federal Ministry of Poverty Alleviation has set the minimum amount for Zakat deduction at Rs79,689 for 2025. This means that if a Muslim account holder has savings equal to or above this amount, Zakat will be deducted automatically.

The deduction applies to savings accounts, profit and loss accounts, and other similar types of deposits. However, current accounts are exempt, meaning Zakat will not be deducted from them.

As part of the financial arrangements for Ramazan, banks will remain closed for public transactions on the first day of the holy month.

At the same time, the Council of Islamic Ideology has announced the recommended amounts for fitrana and fidya. The minimum fitrana amount is set at Rs220 per person. Additional rates vary depending on food items, including Rs450 for barley, Rs1,650 for dates, Rs2,500 for raisins, and Rs5,000 for dried figs (Munakka).

Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet in Peshawar on February 28 to observe the moon sighting for Ramazan. The meeting, led by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, will take place after the Asr prayer to determine the beginning of the holy month.
